Bringing Festive Cheer PDF Print E-mail

ImageA group of local Sixth-Formers brought a smile back to the faces of the residents of a Tewkesbury nursing home which had to be evacuated in the summer floods.

Twenty-two pupils from Bredon School, an independent school near Tewkesbury, visited The Grange Nursing & Residential Home and spent the day helping to put up Christmas decorations, wrapping presents, doing a little gardening and chatting to the residents. The Grange, which is near the Mythe Treatment Works, was evacuated when Tewkesbury was hit by the floods at the end of July.

“We wanted to make a contribution to the local community,” said Head Boy Robert Kennedy. “Originally we were going to invite people from The Grange to come to the school, but we realised that might rule out some of them, so we rang and asked them if we could do anything to help at the home.”

ImageBredon School has strong links with the community and has supported a number of local charities over the years. “We always encourage our pupils to try to make a difference,” said Principal David Keyte. “We were only too happy to help The Grange with this project, particularly after what happened with the floods.”

Their offer was much appreciated by The Grange: “We are just so busy at the moment; I was really struggling to find the time to do the Christmas decorations,” said Deputy Manager Sam Williams. “It was lovely having the young people here, and the place looks really festive now. It’s a great end to what at times has been a very challenging year.”

Bredon School is an independent day and boarding school with around 230 boys and girls, aged 7-18. The school is set in 84 acres around the historic Pull Court mansion.
