December 2006 BLT Memorial Trophy match report
by Doug Sharp

Although the turnout was a little disappointing, some 20 players played on the Junior/Mini pitch, the only dryish pitch at the school as all the other pitches were flooded. This suited everyone, either because they were overweight and unfit or because they had been playing League Rugby the day before and were a little off-colour.The day itself was cold, wet and windy, which raised the enthusiasm levels even higher!
The rugby turned out to be very entertaining, festival-type rugby with lots of flare and little tackling, with the occasional "big hit" which happened more by accident then design. We lost count of the score but the President's team (Old OBs) won by about 15 points in a very high-scoring game over the Chairman's team (Young OBs). Everyone left after a very good tea and cup presentation a lot warmer and dryer than they had been during the game.
Let's hope that next year the extra 10 players who promised to play actually turn up so we can play a full 15-a-side match.
